ELLIS Simms insists Coventry City are ‘heading in the right direction’ following their midweek win at Blackburn Rovers.

Simms scored his first league goal since October to put the Sky Blues ahead and also had a hand in Brandon Thomas-Asante’s strike after the break at Ewood Park.

And the 24-year-old hopes to build on his goal against Rovers after starting in successive league games for the first time since September/August.

Simms said: “I’m a striker and I want to score as many goals as possible, but I haven’t scored as of late, so it’s always nice to score.

“I knew if I kept working hard and doing the other bits of my game then the chances will come, and the goal will come eventually and that happened, and I just need to build on it and go again.

“We have back-to-back wins, and we have a massive game on Saturday, so we need to get our heads down and not get too high.

“It’s positive, we’re going in the right direction, so we just need to keep going and working hard and hopefully we get more results.”

The striker previously worked with Sky Blues head coach Frank Lampard during the latter’s time in charge of Everton.

And Simms hopes to repay the faith shown in him by Lampard with the striker keen to cement his place at the top end of the pitch.

Simms added: “It’s been great working under him, since 2025 I’ve been playing more and starting more games, so he has put the faith in me, and I need to keep working get my head down and keep working on other aspects of my game.

“I want to score goals as well, but they will come if I keep doing the other bits and it’s been great working under him and were doing well.

“It’s a good result and I’m happy to get on the scoresheet.

“We grew into the game, and we managed to get a goal before half time and that’s what you need sometimes just a goal when things aren’t going for you because there’s been other games when we haven’t got what we’ve deserved.”

Coventry are next in action against Watford on Saturday, January 25 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
