FRANK Lampard believes Coventry City are ‘progressing’ with their style of play after rescuing a late point against Norwich City.
The Sky Blues dominated proceedings from start to finish but fell behind at the break after Mathias Kvistgaarden put the visitors ahead against the run of play at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
However, an injury time equaliser from Haji Wright saw Coventry deservedly draw level in a game which saw the Sky Blues have 28 shots on goal compared to Norwich’s four.
The home side also dominated possession and Lampard feels his side are evolving in terms of their style of play compared to the way Coventry played against the Canaries last season.
Lampard said: “It was a fantastic performance from the team – from minute one. We continued all the way through and created a lot.
“The only thing that was lacking is the win and that’s because it was one of those days. Things were blocked or didn’t quite go for us.
“Then it’s a test of character and they stood up to that because we pushed all the way to the end of the game. I’m really proud of the players.
“I hope the players and the fans feel like we’re progressing. We need to continue. You always want more.
“When I see the way we’re playing, I’m happy. We need to keep fighting.”
Wright bundled home an equaliser six minutes into injury time after Kvistgaarden’s deflected shot on 17 minutes put Norwich ahead.
However, Lampard felt his side should have had a penalty at the start of nine minutes of stoppage time for a foul on Wright.
Lampard added: “Haji’s a pretty honest lad. He got contact from behind in the box. Penalty.
“I can’t see how that’s not been given. If that happens we have that extra time to push for the winning goal.
“It’s frustrating when a game is allowed to be broken up as much at it was for everyone to come here and watch.
“I understand it but the penalty is one the referee just for me didn’t get right and that’s disappointing.
“Let’s hope one goes for us very soon.”
Coventry are next in action against Leicester City on Saturday, September 20 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the King Power Stadium.
