FRANK Lampard believes Coventry City have ‘turned a corner’ after claiming a third successive win away at Sheffield United in midweek.
The Sky Blues came from behind to win 2-1 at Bramall Lane as goals from Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni sealed the points for Coventry after Harrison Burrows opened the scoring.
Coventry now lead the Championship table by five points as the Sky Blues claimed back-to-back away wins for the first time since November.
And Lampard felt his side showed personality on the pitch to earn a first win at Bramall Lane since 2013.
Lampard said: “It was always going to be [hard-earned] they’re a good team on the rise.
“We needed personality in this game. They’re trying to get up [the table] into the play-offs.
“The personality and character of the team was absolutely first class.
“We had to defend our box really well in the first half because we weren’t properly at our best at all.
“We weren’t as calm as we normally are on the ball but maybe that’s a bit of credit to them.
“The character to come back from one down and score two really good goals is credit to the boys and to see the game out.”
The home side broke the deadlock three minutes after half time when Gustavo Hamer played a reverse pass into the path of Burrows who saw his effort deflect off Joel Latibeaudiere and past a helpless Carl Rushworth.
However, the Sky Blues equalised on 52 minutes as Ephron Mason-Clark found Wright towards the left edge of the penalty area and the striker cut inside before blasting a powerful effort through Blades goalkeeper Michael Cooper from 15-yards out.
And Coventry completed the turnaround five minutes later when Rudoni headed Mason-Clark’s cross from the left into the bottom right corner from eight-yards out.
However, Sky Blues boss Lampard insists the Sky Blues must stay grounded after previously allowing a 10-point lead at the top to slip.
Lampard added: “At this stage of the season, hard work is absolutely necessary but we’ve got to keep our feet on the ground and keep trying to deliver it.
“Sometimes you have to not panic and stay calm and understand football is football.
“We had a really big period of almost a year really of points gained. It was very normal that you have a [difficult] period and it fell for us at Christmas.
“You’ve got to show a bit of character to get through it. The boys have really switched on and have deserved to turn this little corner.
“It’s so important we keep our feet on the ground. Everybody don’t get excited again because there’s so many points to play for.”
Coventry are next in action against Stoke City on Saturday, February 28 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
