FRANK Lampard branded Coventry City’s win against Birmingham City as his ‘favourite performance’ of the season.
The Sky Blues cruised to a 3-0 win against 10-man Birmingham at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Coventry sit second in the Championship table with the Sky Blues yet to lose in seven games this season.
And Lampard praised the attitude of his side after the Sky Blues prevented Birmingham from registering a single shot on target.
Lampard said: “It was outstanding. The atmosphere was outstanding for a derby game. The players were brilliant.
“Everyone was focused and ready to compete. You could see we were at it and the fans reacted to that.
“They went down to 10-men. It’s not easy to deal with, we dealt with it brilliantly. We kept doing the right things.
“We were very clean with how we moved the ball. The focus of the team was amazing. It was very well played out by the team.
“It’s my favourite performance of the season because of the attitude of the team.”
An early goal from Brandon Thomas-Asante put the Sky Blues ahead before Jack Robinson saw red for the visitors shortly before half time.
Birmingham’s Bright Osayi-Samuel then put through his own net at the start of the second period before Victor Torp completed the scoring.
And Lampard believes Danish midfielder Torp, who has five goals to his name this season, is reaching new levels this season.
Lampard added: “He is [going to new levels] and there all sorts of goals.
“He’s going up levels. I loved his goal because it means he’s had to sprint 60-yards to keep up with play.
“He’s a player that we’ve looked at technically and his training and his mentality and the way he plays.
“We felt there’s a player to really work with and he’s easy to work with because he’s so keen to improve and listen and learn.
“He’s getting better. He’s just a really smart technical player who gets around the pitch, he’s got all the great attributes for an all-round midfielder player.”
Coventry are next in action against Millwall on Wednesday, October 1 with kick-off at 7.45pm at The Den.
