FOOTBALL - Frank Lampard calls for 'perspective' ahead of Coventry City's trip to QPR

FRANK Lampard stressed the importance of ‘perspective’ ahead of Coventry City’s trip to Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

The Sky Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat at in-form Norwich City in their last outing – a result which leaves Coventry three points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Coventry thrashed QPR 7-1 in the reverse fixture on a momentous day for the Sky Blues which coincided with the club’s purchase of the Coventry Building Society Arena.

And Lampard called for some perspective on the club’s season following a challenging run of results on the road.

Lampard said: “We’ve got to be very careful at times to understand where we’re at.

“You’re never entitled to get anything in this league or in football.

“Where we sit in our position in the table is due to our hard work.

“Periods come around which are challenging, they happen to every team.

“We have to be very careful to have the right perspective.

“It’s a balance of edge and realism to get to where we are against the odds at times.”

Coventry signed winger Jahnoah Markelo from Swiss side FC Zurich earlier this week.

But Lampard admits the 23-year-old may need a little bit of time to adapt to the rigours of the Championship.

Lampard added: “He’s a talented player. He’s one we’ve had on our eye on for a while now.

“He’s a winger predominantly but can play wing-back also. He’s an attacking player on the side of the pitch.

“He’s got good speed and acceleration one versus one. He’s a young player who will need some time to adapt to the league.

“He’s not played a proper game for awhile as well. He’s one for the future and if he can help us in the short term that would be great too.

“We’ve got two players in that position on loan so we felt it was the right time to make a move long-term.”

Coventry travel to QPR on Saturday, January 31 with kick-off at 3pm at Loftus Road.
