FRANK Lampard insists ‘nothing is done yet’ despite Coventry City taking a big step towards promotion with victory at Swansea City.
The Sky Blues moved nine points clear at the top of the Championship table following a 3-0 win at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante, Matt Grimes and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto saw Lampard’s side pounce on draws for title rivals Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town.
However, Lampard insists his side must not relax with the Sky Blues just seven games away from securing a dream return to the Premier League.
Lampard said: “You can’t get more professional, you can’t get more tactically on point from the players.
“Swansea are a really good team and they’re doing well at home and we dealt with every element of the game from start to finish.
“We were clinical in front of goal, defended our box and the tactical discipline was brilliant.
“We were clinical when it mattered and it gave us a great feeling in the game and the handling of the second half was outstanding.
“Sometimes you have to recognise a good day. It was a good day and a great performance by the lads.
“It’s seven games which is 21 points. It’s not done yet, we know this league, we know the dangers of relaxing. There’s still work to do.”
Coventry broke the deadlock from the penalty spot on 32 minutes when Thomas-Asante blasted the ball through Lawrence Vigouroux after Ben Cabango fouled Ephron Mason-Clark in the box.
And the Sky Blues doubled their lead six minutes later as Grimes steered a low volley into the net from 20-yards out via the aid of the post to score against his former club.
Coventry all but sealed the points two minutes before half time when Sakamoto’s shot deflected past Vigouroux at the goalkeeper’s near post.
Sky Blues skipper Grimes made his first return to his old club since joining Coventry from Swansea in January 2025.
And Lampard heaped praise on how former Swans midfielder Grimes dealt with the occasion of facing his old side.
Lampard added: “He rose above [the noise]. That’s the type of bloke that he is.
“His performance was brilliant. There’s pressure when you come back to your old club.
“I’ve had it and I remember the feeling. You try and make it a positive pressure but it’s not easy.
“He played here for 10 years, people should respect that fact. Now he’s come to Coventry and we’re trying to get in the Premier League.
“He fully deserved his goal and he showed a lot about himself in the way he handled the whole occasion.”
Coventry are next in action against Derby County on Friday, April 3 with kick-off at 8pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
