FRANK Lampard praised his Coventry City players after the Sky Blues overcame a ‘difficult’ test against Blackburn Rovers to remain unbeaten and top of the table.
Stunning goals from Victor Torp and Brandon Thomas-Asante sealed a fourth successive win for the Sky Blues at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Victory sees Coventry remain top of the Championship with the Sky Blues unbeaten in their first 10 matches of the campaign.
And Lampard believes City can stretch their unbeaten run if his players continue to display the right attitude and desire.
Lampard said: “Everyone in the stadium knows that wasn’t our best performance, especially in the first half.
“But that’s football, if you want to be in it for the long run over a season you have to have these difficult days.
“You have to find a way and once we got our two-nil lead we saw out the game pretty comfortably.
“I’m happy with the performance as a whole and I’m happy with the feeling of the players, the club and the fans.
“We just have to keep our feet on the ground. If we keep the right attitude and desire we’ll try and continue as much as we can.”
After a below-par display in the first half Coventry stunned Rovers with two goals in as many minutes after the break.
The Sky Blues broke the deadlock on 57 minutes when Torp fired a volley through a crowd of bodies and into the net from just outside the penalty area.
And Thomas-Asante repeated the feat two minutes later as he placed a volley into the bottom left corner from 20-yards out.
The win pleased Coventry boss Lampard who felt his side did not have it all their own way at times against Blackburn.
Lampard added: “It was one of the games which makes me the most happiest.
“We’ve had it our own way a lot in different games.
“They made it hard with their man-to-man pressing, there wasn’t the usual space to create overloads in our build.
“We weren’t as clean as we normally are in the first half but we made a couple of little tactical adjustments.
“Sometimes in games you rely on your players to do what they did.
“The two goals were fantastic and it’s only through work and practice that it pays off.”
Coventry are next in action against Portsmouth on Tuesday, October 21 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Fratton Park.
