VIKTOR Gyokeres scored his 14th goal of the season as Coventry City won 2-0 away at Rotherham United to move within touching distance of the play-offs.
Gyokeres sealed the win in injury time after Jamie Allen opened the scoring early in the second half at the New York Stadium.
The result means Coventry sit 11th in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points outside of the play-off places.
Rotherham thought they had taken the lead when Jordan Hugill headed home at the back post from a corner only for the referee to blow for a foul on Sky Blues goalkeeper Ben Wilson.
The visitors created their first meaningful chance soon after as Gyokeres latched onto a long ball and turned his man only to be denied by Millers stopper Viktor Johansson.
At the other end, Rotherham midfielder Oliver Rathbone sent a dipping volley inches over the crossbar after Coventry only half cleared a cross to the edge of the penalty area.
The hosts spurned a golden chance to take the lead before the break when Hugill headed straight into the arms of Wilson when left unmarked 10-yards from goal from Rathbone’s cross.
And the Sky Blues made the most of that missed chance to take the lead on 46 minutes when Allen stabbed the ball home from eight yards out from Jake Bidwell’s cutback.
City wasted an excellent opening to double their lead as Gyokeres shot wide from another long ball in behind the Rotherham defence.
However, the Sweden international eventually sealed the points in time added on when he received Gustavo Hamer’s pass and drilled the ball across goal into the bottom right corner.
Coventry are next in action at home to Sunderland on Saturday, February 25 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
