FOOTBALL - Jack Rudoni admits Coventry City must start to 'climb the table' ahead of Burnley trip

JACK Rudoni admits Coventry City must start to ‘climb the table’ ahead of a tough trip to Burnley tonight (kick-off, 7.45pm).

Rudoni provided the assist for Coventry’s equaliser against Sheffield United last weekend as the Sky Blues earned a point in a second successive draw under interim boss Rhys Carr.

And with City just two points above the Championship relegation zone, Rudoni insists Coventry need to move clear of danger as soon as possible.

Rudoni said: “It’s credit to the staff that have come in and not made it difficult for us, you know, with the gaffer not being here.

“He did so much for the club and everyone, for him to go, it was a big change, especially for the people who have been here for a long time.

“But, you know, as football is, it happens in our game, and we have games coming thick and fast, and we need to put that to a side and focus on the task ahead and be ready for whoever comes in and start to climb the table.”

The Sky Blues twice came from behind to draw with the Blades as newly-capped Belgium international Norman Bassette initially drew City level after Tyrese Campbell put the visitors ahead.

United reclaimed the lead courtesy of Jesurun Rak-Sakyi’s strike before Blades defender Anel Ahmedhodzic saw red for violent conduct one minute before the break following an off-the-ball altercation with Bassette.

And City deservedly equalised for a second time late on when Bobby Thomas headed in Rudoni’s corner from the right.

Rudoni added: “There’s a big sense of frustration that we didn’t get the win. We knew we were going to come out and have a lot of the ball, we’d like to have got another goal to win the game, and probably should have.

“Some bits could have been tidied up when we’re going forward, or maybe our final ball could have been better at times.

“I think something we just need to almost work on when we’ve got the ball, out of possession shape, even when we have the ball, because a lot of the time teams are breaking and getting chances, even when we’re on top.

“We just need to tidy that bit up and once we’ve tidied it up, I’m sure we’ll start picking up a lot of points, because we create the chances.”

Coventry travel to Burnley on Tuesday, November 26 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Turf Moor.
