FRANK Lampard is now the odds-on favourite to become the next Coventry City manager as the Sky Blues close in on appointing Mark Robins’ successor.
Lampard (1/4 with Sky Bet) has seen his odds slashed with bookmakers with previous odds-on favourite Ruud van Nistelrooy now priced at 4/1.
The former Chelsea and England great is now the clear favourite to take charge at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
He previously led Derby County to the Championship play-off final in his first season as a manager in 2018/19.
Lampard then completed a dream return to former club Chelsea in July 2019 and led the Blues until his sacking in January 2021.
He later spent a year in charge of Everton during which time he guided the Toffees to Premier League safety.
Lampard’s last managerial stint saw him return to Chelsea as caretaker manager at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
He now holds a clear lead with the bookies ahead of van Nistelrooy although the Dutchman remains a strong candidate for the role.
The legendary striker recently took interim charge of Manchester United and guided the Red Devils to three wins and one draw from his four matches in charge.
However, incoming United boss Ruben Amorim decided against keeping van Nistelrooy as part of his coaching staff at Old Trafford.
The other leading candidate for the role, Lee Carsley, has seen his odds drift to 12/1.
Carsley ended his stint as interim England manager with an emphatic 5-0 win against the Republic of Ireland.
Victory ensured England secured promotion back to League A of the UEFA Nations League.
However, the FA confirmed Carsley will now resume his role as England under-21s manager which could put pay to his chances of becoming Coventry’s new manager.
