LIAM Kitching believes the defensive side of Coventry City’s game is ‘starting to come together’ following victory against Birmingham City.
Coventry recorded back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season with a 3-0 win against 10-man Blues.
And Sky Blues vice-captain Kitching praised his teammates for putting the game to bed shortly after half time.
Kitching said: “It’s massive. At the start of the season we weren’t getting the clean sheets and now it’s starting to come together.
“It’s always difficult and hard when teams go down to 10-men because they’ve almost got nothing to lose.
“But we stuck to it and moved the ball fast and put the game to bed nice and early.
“I see myself as a bit of a leader. It’s an honour for me [to be vice-captain] at this special football club.”
Kitching played a key role in Coventry’s opening goal against Blues while the returning Josh Eccles forced Bright Osayi-Samuel to turn the ball into his own net for City’s second of the afternoon.
Eccles made his first start of the season for the Sky Blues against Birmingham following a freak injury which saw the midfielder grow an extra bone in his leg.
And Kitching heaped praise on Eccles who impressed in the absence of influential midfielder Jack Rudoni.
Kitching added: “Josh is a great lad. I love him to pieces.
“He’s had a bit of a tough time with his injury. It was a bit of a different one.
“All the time I was asking him ‘what’s up’ and this, that and the other.
“I’m really proud of him to come back into the side and put in a performance like that.
“Rudi’s got a little niggle and Josh has stepped in and taken his chance.”
Coventry are next in action against Millwall on Wednesday, October 1 with kick-off at 7.45pm at The Den.
