COVENTRY City captain Matt Grimes admits the Sky Blues dropped below their ‘minimum standards’ in defeat at Wrexham.
The Sky Blues saw their 12-game unbeaten run come to an end at the Racecourse Ground as Kieffer Moore’s hat-trick condemned City to defeat.
Goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto proved in vain although Coventry remain top of the Championship table.
And Grimes admits the Sky Blues did not reach the standards they have set in the first 12 games of the campaign in Wales.
Grimes said: “I don’t think we were worthy of anything on the night.
“We dropped below the level that we’ve set. It’s not normal to go 12 unbeaten in this league.
“It’s dust ourselves off time and go again. It just didn’t quite click for us.
“We fell below what is our minimum standards. It can happen and it will happen again in the season.
“It’s how you respond. It’s a disappointing result but we’ll just be looking to bounce back.”
Coventry have the chance to respond to the setback in midweek when the Sky Blues host struggling Sheffield United.
And Grimes insists he and his teammates are focused on bouncing back and responding to the defeat against Wrexham.
Grimes added: “We just weren’t quite at the races. It wasn’t down to any specific individuals.
“We’re not going to look for any excuses. We just weren’t at the level.
“All we can do is bounce back and make it the beginning of another decent unbeaten run.
“Everyone realises and appreciates that we weren’t at our best, it’s just how we respond.”
Coventry host Sheffield United on Tuesday, November 4 with kick-off at 8pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
