MATT Grimes admits Coventry City ‘lost control’ of the game after letting the lead slip twice in a draw away at Oxford United.
A late free-kick from Cameron Brannagan drew the home side level at the Kassam Stadium although the Sky Blues remain unbeaten in the league this season.
That came after Haji Wright and Victor Torp twice put City ahead either side of Will Lankshear’s equaliser for Oxford.
And Grimes felt Coventry lacked control of the game in the second half but praised the bravey of his teammates when in possession.
Grimes said: “I thought we were really good first half.
“We lost a bit of control in the second half, and the game turned a bit messy, a bit end-to-end, they started having a few more chances.
“It’s disappointing to not win the game, but we didn’t get beat.
“You can see the lads are confident, playing some nice stuff at the moment, and the glimpses in the second half as well.
“We had the bravery to take the ball and try and calm down the chaos a little bit.
“We didn’t do that enough in the second half. A point away from home is not the worst.”
Torp put City ahead for a second time with a stunning free-kick from just outside the penalty area to score his fourth goal in his last three league appearances.
Grimes heaped praise on his midfielder partner and believes City’s style of play allows players to express themselves.
Grimes added: “I mean, I don’t think it needs any commentary, does it with the goal.
“We all knew it had a really good chance to go in as soon as he stepped over it.
“He’s in a really good place chipping in with goals and screamers like that. It’s good for the team to have.
“I think he’s just like the rest of the front lads. He’s playing free, they’re enjoying their football. They’re linking up really well.
“It’s just allowing those players to express themselves in the way that they do.”
Coventry are next in action against Norwich City on Saturday, September 13 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
