COVENTRY City goalkeeper Oliver Dovin is not ‘taking anything for granted’ after recording successive clean sheets following his return to the side.
The Sweden international kept clean sheets against both Millwall and Plymouth Argyle. Dovin made his first start since early November against the Pilgrims on Boxing Day.
And the 22-year-old wants to keep improving following a difficult start to life at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Dovin said: “Every time you get to play it’s nice and you can’t take anything for granted you have to work hard every day and be grateful for the playing time you get and try and perform as well as you can.
“It’s a different situation to what I have been used to, but you have to grind and come to training every day and try and be better.
“We make each other better and it’s good to have competition.
“Since I’ve come here, I think I’ve taken steps as a footballer and as a goalkeeper and part of that is down to them, so I’m thankful for them.
“I’m learning all the time, I’m young and I just need to keep trying to improve.”
The shutout against Millwall saw the Sky Blues record successive clean sheets in the league for the first time in over a year.
And Dovin was quick to praise City’s defence for limiting their opponents to just three shots on target over the course of the last two matches.
Dovin added: “The team has been really strong defensively in the last two games and I think we’ve only faced three shots on target.
“I think we can build defensively and then the offensive play will come.
“We conceded a lot of goals that were rubbish and in games where teams hadn’t had much of the ball or chances, and they still managed to score and in the last few games we’ve been very stable.”
Coventry are next in action against Cardiff City on Wednesday, January 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Cardiff City Stadium.
