ELLIS Simms scored a second first-half hat-trick in three games as Coventry City cruised to a 5-0 win against bottom club Rotherham United.

Simms continued his fine recent form in front of goal with a second career hat-trick while Joel Latibeaudiere and Fabio Tavares also found the net at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The result means Coventry sit eighth in the Championship table, three points outside of the play-off places.

Mark Robins’ side broke the deadlock after just five minutes as Millers goalkeeper Viktor Johansson inexplicably dropped Jake Bidwell’s cross into the path of Simms who nodded home into an empty net.

And City doubled their lead on 27 minutes when Latibeaudiere headed Bidwell’s corner from the right into the net from six-yards out.

The Sky Blues extended their lead four minutes later as the ball broke kindly to Simms in the box and the striker lashed a shot through Johansson from 15-yards out.

And Simms completed his hat-trick on 37 minutes with a well-placed first time effort into the right corner of the goal from 20-yards out from Haji Wright’s lay off.

City added some gloss to the scoreline in injury time when substitute Tavares coolly picked out the bottom right corner to score his first league goal of the season.

Coventry are next in action away at Watford on Saturday, March 9 with kick-off at 3pm at Vicarage Road.
