JEVAUGHN Warren will make his first league start for Coventry Rugby when Alex Rae’s side make the long trip to Caldy this weekend.
The former Saracens Academy prop joined Cov at the end of last season and has featured from the bench in all four of his side’s league games this term.
Warren replaces Toby Trinder who rests a grumbling back ahead of Cov’s Premiership Cup campaign and as a result on-loan Bath loosehead Mikey Summerfield joins the replacements bench.
Elsewhere in the pack, head coach Rae opts to start Senitiki Nayalo in the second row – where he performed successfully during Cov’s recent home win over Bedford Blues – alongside ever-present Obi Nkwocha.
Matt Kvesic shifts from flanker to no.8 with Tom Ball and Aaron Hinckley completing a mobile back-row trio.
Coventry retain the same backline which started last weekend’s 28-14 home win over Chinnor which means Daf Tiueti wears the no.13 shirt alongside centre partner Tom Hitchcock.
Liam Richman who has an 87 per cent strike rate from the tee and is eight points away from passing 50 for the season for the first time in a Coventry shirt starts at fly half with Josh Barton as his half-back partner.
Jimmy Martin who reached the 200-point landmark for Cov last weekend forms one third of a dangerous back three that has collectively claimed ten tries in four games this season.
Rae retains the same six-two, forwards-backs split among the replacements which Cov have favoured this season to date with scrum-half Will Lane and winger David Opoku providing backline cover.
Coventry arrive at Paton Field as the Championship’s only unbeaten side while their hosts are yet to break their seasonal duck. However, the clubs’ most recent meeting in February when Caldy emerged with a well-deserved 26-22 win is fresh in the memory.
Rae said: “We’ve had very similar games at Caldy in each of the last two years,” he said. On both occasions we were leading quite well but then let them back into the game. That got the crowd involved and once that happened it became doubly tough.
“As well as beating us, Caldy have won against most of the other clubs in the division including Ealing up there. Everyone knows what a difficult place it is for away teams and we’re expecting one of our hardest games of the season.
“From our point of view we want to play our game, keep a high tempo and make it as uncomfortable as possible for them.”
