Extra resources pumped into tackling flooding in Warwickshire

INCREASED flooding across the county has led to extra work to prepare for future downpours.

Warwickshire County Council is pumping additional resources into clearing blocked drains across the county’s roads.

It follows an exceptionally wet winter which led to the ground becoming saturated leading to increased flooding.

The council is taking action to prepare the highways for any potential downpours during the rest of winter. It includes doing extra work to clear drains at weekends and doubling its drain jetter force to four.

Council transport spokesman Coun Jeff Clarke said: “The danger, deep distress and inconvenience of flooded homes and roads is well known. Yet as the climate warms up, the risk of flooding due to more frequent, intense localised rainfall increases.

“To combat this, the council is doing as much as we can to reduce the risk to our communities by targeting our resources at roads with known flooding hotspot, and also areas where residents tell us there are problems.”
