The Sky Blues, memorable winners of the 2016/7 competition last year at Wembley, will play the Gunners’ youngsters along with Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers in the Group Stage of the Southern Section of the trophy.
CCFC won their first game at Wembley since the FA Cup Final win in 1987, with a 2-1 win over Oxford United.
But they crashed out in last season’s group stage during their title defence.
Coventry fans have been celebrating their latest victory at Wembley in May, when a barnstorming 20 minutes included three spectacular goals to secure their return to League One in the Play-Off Final.
The opening Checkatrade Trophy fixture against a very strong Arsenal U21s could be the beginning of their return to the home of English football.
