SIX FIRE ENGINES tackled a blaze at a former Coventry pub on Butts Road.

Firefighters and police at The Hamptons, Butts Road last night (Sunday) at around 8.40pm.

The surrounding roads were shut and residents were advised to keep all windows closed, due to the sheer amount of smoke billowing from the blaze.

Crews from Coventry, Binley, Canley, Foleshill, Solihull and Bickenhill stations attended the scene, with the first vehicle arrived and mobilised the fire within two minutes.

West Midlands Fire Service said: “This was a deliberately started fire on the first floor of a two-storey void pub.

“The fire was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. Everyone was accounted for and there were no casualties.

“Firefighters boarded up the property and left the scene at 11.16pm.”
