FRANK Lampard hopes his Coventry City side can take ‘confidence’ from their recent victories into this weekend’s clash against Watford.
The Sky Blues are seeking a third straight league win against the Hornets after recent triumphs against Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City.
And Lampard praised his side’s collective team spirit ahead of hosting the play-off chasing Hornets at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Lampard said: “Wins can breed a good confidence and a good feeling, so it’s important that we harness that because you strive for that.
“It’s also important that you don’t get complacent, it’s all small steps at the moment we’re all quite fresh together still in mid-season.
“It’s a good feeling but there are always things we can do better. Against Blackburn there were some really good things, but also lots we can improve on, as always.
“It’s a balance of confidence and understanding that there is still a lot to do.
“The collective spirit of the team. Two clean sheets are something we had been lacking earlier in the season and it takes work and it’s a real collective.”
City’s weekend opponents released a statement confirming boss Tom Cleverley will remain in the dugout for the fixture amid speculation over his future.
Lampard and Cleverley spent time together on international duty with England during their playing careers.
Lampard added: “I’ve got a lot of time for Clevs we were in a lot of England squads together and he was a very good player and possibly underrated in a sense because I think he was a really good footballer.
“He had a top career, and I had a lot of respect for him, and I’ve also got as much if not even more, for him to go into management.
“I know the challenges of it being a young English coach going into a club with expectations of people and how they look at you and how they view you and I think he’s done very well in how he’s worked in terms trying to set an identity and a way of playing.
“I know they’re in a tough run at the minute, but they’re still there or thereabouts in the play-off argument that’s for sure and that’s not easy.
“He’s doing a really good job, and I look forward to seeing him.”
Coventry entertain Watford on Saturday, January 25 with kick-off at 3pm at the CBS Arena.
