COVENTRY’S first female police chief Claire Bell has been given the job permanently.

Chief Superintendent Bell took on the role initially on a temporary basis in January until the summer.

But she has confirmed her permanent appointment this week, adding she was delighted.

Her predecessor Andy Nicholson was promoted to assistant Chief Constable.

Back in January when asked about being the first woman in the job she told us: “We now have six of ten commanders who are female so it’s not a big story internally. The feedback you get is that people feel they have something to aspire to.”
