A MAN who subjected a young woman to a terrifying ordeal, brutally robbing and raping her as she walked home, has been jailed.
Linton Long, a 41-year old Coventry warehouseman, pleaded guilty to all offences and was handed a seven year sentence.
The woman, who was 21 at the time, was knocked to the floor by Linton who demanded money before dragging her into a nearby alleyway and sexually assaulting her.
In a final callous act he then blindfolded his terrified victim with her own scarf before stealing her bag and running off.
The attack took place in the early hours of February 15 as the young woman walked home from Kasbah nightclub in the city centre.
Police were called to the scene by a passer-by and Mr Long was arrested four days later after being identified by local CCTV.
DC Katy Roberts, from Coventry public protection unit, investigated the case and said: “This was a truly distressing case where a young woman was subjected to a terrifying attack.
“Our specialised sexual offences officers are dedicated to investigating these types of crime and will stop at nothing to ensure that victims are dealt with in a professional manner, whilst the crimes are investigated thoroughly and robustly.
“Hopefully the sentence Mr Long received will offer some comfort to his victim and this outcome will give others the courage to come forward if they are subjected to such crimes.”
