AS BINLEY Mega Chippy continues on its viral journey around the Internet and the World, a Coventry man has created a new video calling on people to celebrate the city’s 31 other fish and chip shops.

Gareth Withers’ short one-minute 13second film which starts with ‘We’ll take your Binley Mega Chippy and raise you…..’

In a cleverly written song he then lists the 31 others with accompanying pictures of each one.

It concludes with: “Feed your hunger – we’re the Coventry chip shops – coming at the people with some haddock and a mic drop!”

The song is on YouTube (watch above) and also on Facebook, Twitter and TikTok – where Binley Mega Chippy found its now global success.

Gareth, who has written a number of parody songs for Coventry City FC, told the Observer: “I didn’t know much about the Binley Mega Chippy video but people got in touch with me and said I should do a song to highlight the other great fish and chip shops we have in the city.”

Gareth got a list of the chip shops and visited as many as he could to get selfies outside, using general pics of the rest.

“I have had some great feedback on social media and it has got a lot of people to come forward and let others know what their favourite chip shop is.

“I’m hoping the song will encourage more people to support and celebrate their local chippy.

“Maybe, now our year as the UK City of Culture is coming to an end, Coventry could spend the next 12 months as ‘The City of Chip Shops’.”

How Binley Mega Chippy went viral

Gareth’s video follows Binley Mega Chippy cooking up a storm on social media with a video which led to it becoming a sensation on social app TikTok.

People have travelled from across the country and even overseas to visit.

What’s even more staggering is the takeaway, which has been there for more than 10 years, hasn’t promoted itself on social media but the cash tills have been ringing thanks to fan made content.

The chippy featured on TikTok food review account craigs.kebab.house, who placed them at the top spot in a slideshow of the UK’s best takeaways.

But one of the main drivers of the trend is thought to be this fan-made jingle video about the shop that went viral.

The song is the work of TikTok user binleymegachippyfan53 who is enormous fan of this local favourite and his ten second ‘song of praise’ has been viewed more than 760,000 times so far.

Other videos made by fans about the establishment have racked up millions of views on the platform – in fact if you are a regular on TikTok, you’ll have been lucky to escape the Binley Mega Chippy tune.
